About Mason Bees. Native bees, of which there are more than 4,000 species in the U.S., are proving to be much hardier than honeybees. Why? And second, because they don’t live in hives, they can’t be “enslaved” for commercial agriculture, which increases their exposure to toxins and takes them out of their natural habitat.
