One of the questions I get all the time is: What are the best type of businesses to start from home. I did some research and found some really good ideas. Just keep in mind that many of these types of businesses are services that you will offer to other people.

So it will require that you market yourself and build up clients. It is not hard once you see what types of businesses you will be offering. I have found that when we offer to do something for someone else, they are willing to hire us if it is something that they don't have time to do themselves.

Here are five examples:

1. House Sitting - Now this is a business that you can do for people who are away on vacation, or travel for their company. You can advertise in your local area, by posting flyers in the neighborhoods that have working professionals.

It probably would be best to start out house sitting for friends and family so you can get some reliable references. Find house sitting jobs online.

2. Dog Walking - This is a perfect job if you like to be outdoors and you love pets. Plenty of apartment dwellers in cities need someone to walk their dogs, due to lack of time and not having a yard or park nearby.

To market yourself you can look for dog walking jobs on the web and you can also publish an ad in your local newspaper. It doesn't take much experience other than making sure to not lose your clients dog.

3. English Tutor

Teaching others English is a great business to start, plenty of parents need after school tutors to help their children improve in school for reading and writing skills.

Also with so many new exchange students coming into school districts the need for individuals who can teach English as a foreign language is in demand.

This business can be started online many teachers provide virtual instruction.

4. Fashion Stylist -

Plenty of people need help with putting together a proper outfit and they want advice on ways to match colors and clothing trends to get the right image.

As a wardrobe stylist you will be a consultant to busy working professionals. Marketing yourself will require that you build up a client list in your local area, setting your own hours and setting your own rates.

5. Professional Organizer -

People need someone to help them declutter their houses, garages and closets.

As  a home organizer you are in a unique position to help people get rid of stuff they no longer need.

As an organizing expert you can market in your local area and build up a list of clients through word of mouth...

The benefit of these home based businesses

The best part is that you are your own boss, you can set your own hours and set your own pay rate. The clients you get can be found online and you can do business in your local city or town. All you need is a phone, fax, and a willingness to help people.

These types of services are evergreen and can be done with no prior experience or education but it does help if you build up a portfolio to show who you have worked with in the past.

Here are some tips I would suggest that you set up a professional website, run ads in your local newspaper, join your chamber of commerce in your city to connect and share your skills.

I have listed some resources you can use if you want to do more research on how to get started in these businesses.
